Dear future Marching Southerners flute players, As your 2007 flute section leaders, we are glad to hear that you are interested in marching with the Southerners in the upcoming fall 2007 season. This season is sure to be an exciting one. We have a very big and exciting season with lots of exciting events. We will be participating in the Bands of America Super Regional in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome. Also, a trip to perform at BOA Nationals in Indianapolis is in the works, so cross your fingers!!! We will also attend quite a few exhibitions to perform as well. The most important date is band camp. Band camp will begin for ROOKIES on Friday, August 10th with dorm check-in from 12-4 pm and orientation and rehearsal from 5-9 pm. VETS will return to join us on Monday, August 13th at 4 pm. After dorm check-in, we will have an orientation and focus on marching and music fundamentals. There is an audition process and it will consist EQUALLY of attitude, marching, and playing ability. A good attitude is VERY important! There will be an audition process for both piccolo and flute. The only requirement we have for piccolo auditions is that you MUST have a black plastic piccolo, no metal. Even if you are interested in marching piccolo you cannot play piccolo in the ensemble until you make the piccolo line. You must have your flute with you during band camp until we announce the piccolo results. When you are registering for classes be sure that you register for the Marching Southerners class. There is a registration form on the website that you will need to fill out in order to even have a spot in the drill. The website is www.marchingsoutherners.org.
